What is Right At School At Home?

As I shared in my earlier post (along with some parenting honesty), Right At School At Home is all about taking some of that guesswork and stress out of structuring our kids’ days. We all want to make sure our kids are still learning and keeping busy, but it’s a little tough to sift through everything on the internet and in our inboxes.

Hi, I’m Katie. Welcome to Right At School At Home!

Times sure are weird right now, aren’t they? I know I’ve been feeling a lot of uncertainty and anxiety. But then I’ll see someone walking their dog, and just that makes the world feel a little more normal.

Meet Connor

In today’s post, I’m sharing Amanda’s story. Her husband is active duty military and her son has special needs, so this has proven to be a particularly interesting time for her family. I hope her story speaks to some of you as your stories have spoken to me!

Our “New” New Normal

I’m now at the point where as long as my kids are doing some school work, something active, and are staying engaged somehow each day, and I’m able to get some work done, I’m considering it a successful day. We have found our “new” new normal.

Helping Children Deal with Coronavirus Anxiety

Whether stress hit hard a few weeks ago, or anxiety has slowly settled in, I know so many of our kids (and us!) have been struggling with this. My little one has been hit especially hard with anxious feelings about a world that’s hard to understand right now, so I thought this might be a helpful topic to tackle in this week’s blog.

Staying Connected In Our Own Unique Ways

In this week’s blog, I talk about how technology is a lifeline in keeping us connected with friends and family, as well as creative ways people are staying connected beyond Zoom and Facetime.

Virtual Field Trips

In this week’s blog, I share some great resources on ways you can explore the world through virtual tours and web cams. Zoos, aquariums, museums, famous and historic places of interest…

Creativity at Home

I know working from home and e-learning has many of us stretched thin, so I’m quite impressed with how creative you all are getting! Whether it’s dance, playing an instrument, painting, or learning coding, this can be such a unique opportunity for our kids to try out new interests in safe spaces and with the luxury of time. Check out the LEGO swimming pool creation that Charity in Cedar Hill, Texas put together. I love the ingenuity of the saran wrap lining to keep the water in. Very creative!

Checking Back In With New Activities

Going forward, our weekly blogs will feature bundles of our newest @Home activities, so you can get our latest content delivered directly to your inbox.

A Slower-Paced May

It’s May, and that time of year when we’re usually inundated with school plays, art showcases, sports games, and graduations. It’s disappointing to miss these fun, end of year celebrations, but maybe we can try to focus on enjoying a May that has a slower pace.

May is National Bike Month

Did you know May is National Bike Month? Whether you’re an avid cyclist, or your bikes are gathering dust in winter storage, family bike rides can be a great way to promote physical activity and enjoy the warmer weather.

Learn to compost right at home

Next Friday is National Composting Day! Composting can actually be easier and simpler than it sounds and is such a great way to teach children about reducing waste and preserving resources.

Equity, Kindness, and Community

This week, we asked our team to share resources with you that have themes of race, equity, kindness, community and family that we like and use with our own children.

Celebrate Juneteenth with Books, Crafts, and Great Food

Many of you likely know that today is Juneteenth, the recognition of the ending of slavery in the U.S. We encourage you to take this opportunity to educate your children about the history of the holiday and celebrate with your family. We hope you find these resources helpful!

How will you celebrate Independence Day this year?

Our country is large and diverse, giving us so much to explore as we celebrate our nation’s independence. Check out how our students’ celebrated their own independence, or explore other Independence Day-themed activities.

Right At School At Home sources a ton of activities and media from kid-friendly content creators around the web. We want to wish a big THANK YOU to every publisher, parent blogger, podcaster, etc. working to make parenting at home a little less stressful and a lot more fun.
